Bhimrao was born to Subhedar Ramji Sankpal and Bhimabai. Despite adversity, Ramji gave great importance to his son's education. From a young age, Babasaheb faced humiliation because of the harsh realities of the caste system, even for the basic necessity of water. Yet he remained steadfast in his pursuit of education. With the support of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj and Sayajirao Gaikwad of Baroda, he studied economics at Columbia University and the London School of Economics. He qualified as a barrister in 1922 and later became independent India's first Law Minister.

Through newspapers such as 'Mooknayak' and 'Bahishkrit Bharat,' Babasaheb challenged the bastions of inequality and launched a struggle for equality. Through the Mahad Satyagraha at Chaudar water tank and the Kalaram Temple Entry movement, he asserted the human rights of communities subjected to generations of untouchability. His call to 'Educate, Organize and Agitate' inspired self-respect and collective action. He made a major contribution to the framing of the Constitution, which became the foundation of modern India's democracy. His economic thought influenced debates on India's monetary system. Through the Hindu Code Bill, he advocated greater rights for women and workers. In later life, he embraced Buddhism and led a mass conversion movement, giving new direction to the struggle for social equality.

As India sought freedom from colonial rule, Dr. Ambedkar also fought deeply rooted social inequality, seeking legal rights, equality and human dignity for the oppressed. As a jurist, educationist, economist, journalist, writer, researcher and humanitarian social reformer, Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar made an unparalleled contribution to India's social, economic and intellectual transformation.
